Expert colour technicians at our Research and Technology Centre enjoy the challenges posed by customers, which can range from matching the colour of a leaf to creating a deeply coloured board suitable for direct food contact!
Colour matching is achieved by software that has been specially adapted to work with our large database of dyes, however, a computerised match will not be perfect and this is where the skills of our technicians are required. Colours can be matched to 3,500 shades already in our library and computerised matches of another 12,700 colours.
Every dye has its own characteristics, so our colour technicians compare the colour under light conditions at a setting of D65 as a primary source, which is the standard British daylight source. They also assess fluorescent lighting as used in retail stores; and tungsten light, as provided by traditional household bulbs. Pigments hold their depth of colour more than chemical dyes, and are used when high lightfastness is required. |
