British master papermaker James Cropper recently presented its most timeless premium papers and innovative sustainability initiatives at international trade fair Paperworld.

The prestigious industry event, which took place from 27 to 30 January in Frankfurt, exhibited the world’s largest range of stationery and office supplies, while acting as stimulus for the retail trade. It was the 14th year that James Cropper attended the event and, this time, its collection of black and white shades took centre stage alongside its range of food contact-approved papers, Dolcelicious.

Internationally renowned for colour quality and consistency, James Cropper is able to create virtually any shade of paper – from the purest of whites to the deepest of blacks. On display at Paperworld were Liquorice, Black Lentil and Elderflower White from the Dolcelcious range; Bowston Black, a solid dyed paper and board product made from 100 per cent reworked fibre; Porcelain, a smooth white graphic board; and TacCard, a high-quality bright white board suited for packaging of premium products.

As well as its selection of black and white papers, James Cropper showcased Dolcelicious, a collection of 11 food contact-approved papers, ideal for packaging and print.

Andy Smith, export director at James Cropper, said: “We wanted to truly demonstrate our colour capabilities across the spectrum, but with a particular focus on the creative potential of black and white shades. Black is dark and challenging, but can be incredibly powerful, and white is a key element of any palette, projecting purity and clarity.

“Our skill and craftsmanship, which has been handed down through generations, combined with modern technology, enables us to create truly exceptional papers that add character to designs and ultimately elevate a brand’s identity.”

The company – which is known for supplying distinct, custom-made paper products to many of the world’s leading brands, galleries and designers – also introduced its revolutionary CupCycling™ technology to attendees. CupCycling™ is part of James Cropper’s commitment to sustainable papermaking and is the world’s first recycling process dedicated to upcycling used take-away coffee cups into fine papers.

Andy added: “The fibre used to create takeaway cups is very high quality and seeing this go to waste on such a huge scale is what inspired us to develop the technology. What we’re left with is material that’s virtually indistinguishable from fresh fibre and can therefore be used to create premium paper products. CupCycling is enabling brands to work with us towards a world that’s less wasteful and create a more sustainable future for coffee cups.”

James Cropper also demonstrated its style credentials in the exhibition’s Trend Show which showcased innovative solutions for the office of tomorrow and included some ground-breaking lifestyle trends for schools, gifts and packaging. The Trend Show brought together exhibitors’ innovations and presented them in three punchy, expressive displays with a focus on modern workplaces and office lifestyes: ‘Work + Challenge’, ‘Minimal + Excellent’ and ‘Spirit + Ambition’ – each with assigned colour schemes.

On prominent display at the trend forum was a selection of colours from the company’s Vanguard collection – a range of smooth papers and boards in a kaleidoscopic choice of 32 stunning colours. Those picked out include Blueberry, Cherry, Celestial Blue and Daffodil, Dark Grey and of course Black and White.
