Our Commitment

At James Cropper Speciality Papers, sustainability considerations are part of the fabric of our organisation.

We are located in the beautiful countryside of the English Lake District and based on the river Kent (a Site of Special Scientific Interest) which is an important salmon stream and home to the endangered white-clawed crayfish.

Nature conservation is something that we have been committed to for generations and so our sustainability stewardship encompasses all aspects of the business, from sustainable fibre source, production efficiencies, investment in alternative energy to waste management.

Our Commitment to Sustainability;

  • Certified to FSCĀ® (Forest Stewardship CouncilĀ®) and separately to PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) standards. Both certifications require an auditable chain of custody for pulp sourced by the mill.
  • All the pulp purchased is manufactured using either an Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) or a Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) bleaching process.
  • Pulp is sourced from sustainable forest management. Softwood and hardwood pulps are imported from Sweden and Finland, whilst eucalyptus pulp is mainly imported from Portugal. All our suppliers are committed to sustainable forest management.
  • All suppliers have attained the International Standards ISO 9000 and ISO 14001.
  • Investment in a Dewatering Plant has made possible the disposal of solid waste from the site on a daily basis for land-spreading on local farms, enabling the elimination of the need for landfill.
James Cropper Speciality Papers is certified with the following International Standards.
