Head of Health and Safety

The Head of Health and Safety holds complete accountability for the holistic well-being and safety of the entire organisation, encompassing the formulation of a well-defined trajectory for the department that aligns with the company's strategic objectives.

A paramount objective of this position will involve skillfully devising, implementing, and upholding a comprehensive health and safety transformation initiative, aimed at ingraining and propelling a robust safety culture throughout the organisation.

Key Accountabilities

Develop and implement a Health and Safety strategy aligned with the organisation's strategic direction.

Lead the planning, development, implementation, and review of health and safety strategies, policies, and management systems.

Establish KPIs, analyse and report on health and safety performance data.

Drive continuous improvements across all areas of the business.

Collaborate with senior leaders to empower them in meeting their responsibilities and driving continual improvement.

Ensure divisional compliance with relevant Health and Safety requirements.

Implement Health and Safety management systems meeting ISO standards.

Resolve legislative issues and ensure practical compliance.

Promote learning and knowledge sharing within the organisation.

Facilitate the health and safety accountabilities of the Board executive directors.

Represent the business and liaise with external bodies.

Lead Safety Steering Group activities.

Manage health and safety budgets and seek cost reduction opportunities.

Project manage health and safety strategy initiatives.

Review and set standards for policies and procedures.

Lead the Health and Safety team, setting clear expectation



What will make you successful?

Relevant graduate degree or equivalent in disciplines such as Science, research, health and safety.

Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner or working towards it, with relevant experience.

Demonstrated recent experience in a similar-level health and safety role, successfully driving culture change within an organisation.

Proficient understanding of safety legislation, rules, regulations, and best practices, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Standards, their clauses, and application.

Ability to stay updated with external health and safety legislation and best practices.

Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health.

Familiarity with the Health & Safety Executive and the ability to effectively interact with their officers.

Driven by continuous improvement, actively contributing ideas to enhance health and safety management and performance.

Skilled in stakeholder management, engaging and influencing both internal and external stakeholders to maximise the impact of the role.
