As part of our newly formed Centre of Innovation, the role of Innovation Technician will help create legacy projects for the long-term future of James Cropper.
The role would involve working as a team member in progressing a project from an idea to business case. Ideas could range from identifying and building on synergies between the business units to implementation of new technology all the way to new businesses.
Key Accountabilities
12 month secondment into the Technical Fibre Products business as Materials Scientist to understand the products, processes and markets for the products.
Bring the knowledge gained into the Centre for Innovation together with exploration of the external environment, emerging technologies, market developments, and customer insights.
Identify ideas and further develop them through thorough research and analysis.
Collaboration with universities, external stakeholders, potential suppliers, and research institutes will provide additional expertise and resources to support the development process.
Evaluating feasibility of ideas by assessing technical requirements, resource availability, market demand, potential risks, and regulatory considerations.
Develop a robust business case that outlines the value proposition, market potential, financial projections, and return on investment.
Present recommendations and supporting evidence to stakeholders and decision-makers within the organisation to keep them informed through implementation and progression.
You will communicate with various levels within the organisation, such as senior management, project teams, and cross-functional departments, to ensure transparency and alignment of goals.
UK and international travel will be required.
What will make you successful?
A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, science, business, or innovation management is required. A higher degree or specialised certifications in innovation or technology-related disciplines can be advantageous.
Prior experience in innovation, research and development (R&D), technology management, or a related field is highly valuable. Experience in a similar role, preferably within a technology-driven organisation, able to demonstrate a track record of success and familiarity with innovation processes.
Understanding of business principles, market dynamics, and financial analysis to assess the commercial viability of projects. Knowledge of business case development, cost analysis, and return on investment calculations.
Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as universities, research institutes, suppliers, and industry experts. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making within the organisation.
Strong project management skills to plan, prioritise, and execute multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in defining project objectives, managing timelines, allocating resources, and monitoring progress to ensure successful project delivery.
