Cosmetics Business: Why secondary packaging is of primary importance

Strategies for sustainability are as important for secondary packaging in the beauty sector as they are for primary packs.
When UK paper and fibre specialist James Cropper says that "the strongest trends in the packaging industry" between this year and next "all revolve around the circular economy", the company is talking about all types of consumer packaging.
"In the EU context, this is driven primarily by political pressure, growing awareness of the
waste issue we have, and consumer perceptions regarding packaging," says Marketing &
Technical Director Richard Bracewell.
In the UK, the issue of hard-to-recycle single-use coffee cups has been hotly debated in the media. "CupCycling by James Cropper is the world's first recycling process dedicated to upcycling takeaway cups," explains the company's Bracewell. Brands such as Selfridges and
Burberry have already developed packaging using this material.
