Kendal Torchlight 2019 - Inspiring Our Creative Leaders

Kendal Torchlight Carnival 2019 promises to be a weekend of celebrations and carnival atmosphere.
James Cropper is proud to support such an important local cultural event by not only getting involved in the event itself but encouraging local creativity before and after the two day spectacle. This included a visit in September from students from Kendal College Arts & Media Campus as part of the Creative Leaders programme.
#Torchlight2019 is a spectacular celebration of the arts, colour and everything Kendal. It's right up our street!
“We are proud of our heritage here at James Cropper plc. It is underpinned by our close relationship with the local community in Kendal and surrounding areas. We’re delighted to be supporting the Kendal Torchlight 2019 as it has been one of Cumbria's most spectacular events since 1970. This year we are working with Kendal College’s Art and Media Faculty allowing them to explore the properties of the materials we produce as part of their Creative Leaders programme. It’s a privilege to be able to inspire and go on to employ local talent which we hope to continue to do for many more generations to come.”Phil Wild, Chief Executive Officer

Kendal Torchlight Carnival has, since 1970, lit up and entertained children and adults alike with a variety of Carnival Floats, Dancers, Bands and other processionists.
The function of the event is to promote the best of Kendal to the rest of the world; to promote local business and enterprise, to show Kendal’s skills talents and capabilities, and to enliven and stimulate Kendalian community spirit.
The Kendal Torchlight procession 2019 takes place on Friday 27th September, with the Kendal Street Party on Saturday 28th September.
Kendal’s Torchlight Carnival is one of a kind. Each year crowds of people, Kendalians and visitors alike, line the streets to watch the procession, which involves local businesses, schools, organisations and clubs. From decorated floats and all manner of vehicles, to dancing troups and marching musicians, it’s always so much fun to see what our creative community has come up with each year.

"We had a great day touring James Cropper with students from Kendal College Arts & Media Campus as part of the Creative Leaders programme to learn about materials and see the process of making paper.
It was a fascinating trip and left everyone inspired with ideas for making costumes and large sculptures. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!"

Thank you very much for all the team’s work to make the Mill Tour such a great success for Kendal College and Torchlight. There are a number of students that I have already spoken to who were amazed at what they saw! Especially in regard to the high quality of the process and products and deep commitment of staff to industry, community and sustainability. A great deal to take in and start applying to what we are doing for their courses and the Carnival.Craig Russell Torchlight Creative Director & Team Leader
